A life friendly working life – why does membership in a trade union pay off?

The trade unions negotiate the pay raises and working conditions of the Finns. The saying “Alone you can ask, but together you can demand” describes the group power of the trade union well.

The trade unions build a life friendly working life and influence the legislation on behalf of the employees. Saturday and Sunday allowance, vacations, sick leaves, parenting leaves. These are not in our legislation just by chance, but thanks to union work.

You receive help and support from the union in different stages of working life. You can phone a lawyer and ask advice from your shop steward. You are not alone when the union is on your side.

The trade union is the shared voice of the employees. It has more influence power the more members it has. Be a part of building a life friendly working life!

Which benefits come from a membership in a trade union?

A trade union membership is your working life insurance – it is worth taking. The majority of the trade union benefits are invaluable, such as influencing legislation and working conditions. Your resilience and well-being are invaluable.

In addition, your membership immediately gives you benefits of hundreds of euros. It is good to remember that even one surprise working life expense will cost you more.

Here are some examples of benefits in euro that your membership will give you:

  • Accident and travel insurance is included in your membership: you save about 250 euro a year.
  • If you become unemployed: you receive earnings-related daily allowance.
  • Lawyer help if needed: you save about 250 euro / hour.
  • Vocational education offered by Jyty: you save about 790 euro / 2 days education.
  • We negotiate pay raises for you: you get almost 10 per cent in raisings in a period of three years*.

*) The pay raises in 2025-2028 for those working in for instance municipalities or wellbeing services counties.
